Jet lag and some of the highlights from Hong Kong

Well, my 20 days adventure have come to a close and I think I am still friends with Ms. K. There were no bloodshed or fights, so I think we are compatible to travel together again.

During the time that I am not sleeping off my jet lag, I have been unpacking and then I realized that most of my suitcases are packed with items for my husband. I guess I really missed him and I was compensating by shopping for him. I bought 8 ties, custom made 4 shirts with french cuffs, 3 pair of slacks, 4 belts, and one pair of patent leather dance shoes, 8 t shirts + plus lots of little knickknacks.

Ms. K had a list of all the eateries she wanted to try, I think we went to most of them. We had the best bake Pineapple Bun on Bute Street in Kowloon, the best Ham and Egg sandwich in Jordan MTR. We tried the 200 year old recipe for 'Swiss Chicken Wings' at Tai Ping Koon in Causeway Bay. We talked our way into Agnes B's new French Bistro for lunch at 111 Leighton Road. We learned to make Chinese steam sweet buns from a Chinese Restaurant on the 10th floor of Time Square - the chef will show you how to roll the dough and fill in the filling and then when you meal is done, the waiter will serve you the buns you made.

We went to our usual place for shopping (NA and European Exporters and Wholesalers) This time we found a new wholesale place in Causeway bay that sells to Joyce and bigger shops.

We didn't have time for museums this trip but we did tour the Central library looking for computer stations. This library is the most quiet library I have ever been, it was pristine and clean. Every floor with the exception of the Children's floor have about 30 computers for you to use. The Children's floor only allow kids to use their computers.

We also register to attend some of the trade shows. We went to Global Sources trade show for Fashion Accessories, which is about the size of 2 of Vancouver Convention Centre. The Electronics Show Next door which we stopped by has 4000 booths and about 6 times the size of Vancouver Convention Centre. The transport to the show was very well done. There were tour bus size shuttles that will take you there every 30 minutes from 10 points all around Hong Kong.

... sorry, jet lag catching up with me now... must sleep... will add more later.

Last Week already!!

How did it happened? We were just here, went to Thailand for a few
days and now we are coming home in 3 days.

Thailand was very educational; the spa was great! (will post more later)

Still have a long list of items to buy for people. The airline change
the weight from 75lbs per bag to 50lbs so I have to buy and pack
smaller and lighter items. Too many things to see and never enough
time.

Finally.. I have time to SIT!

Today is day 5 of our trip and we have been running around ordering clothes to be made, shop and NOT BUY (we are doing recon for later) - we found a new building of wholesaler of European fashion, book a trip to Thailand (hopefully there will be no coup or tsunami this time). Eat, eat, and eat... we found a nice fusion Vietnam/French restaurant. Great food and cheap price, will post my list later.

Packing for a Trip

I have been trying to pack for my 20 day trip for days now and I am always wondering if I am missing anything and then repack and check again.

This is the 4th time I am going to basically the same city for the past 5 years and everytime, I go through this little dance of packing and repacking before I leave.

Being a organized freak, I do have a checklist but I find that I cannot trust that I have pack what I needed to pack.

And then of course there are the decisions...
  • - do you bring old clothes to throw away when you replace with new ones? What if I can't find anything I like? then I will be wearing old clothes for weeks..
  • - should I just buy the toilertries there and leave it when I am done instead of carting the same soaps, shampoos, conditioner, body lotion, etc. in huge bottles since everything should be in their original packaging. Of course there are also items that you might not be able to buy the same there like, contact lens solutions, sprays, gels, and makeup.
  • - would my shoes go with all my clothes and also be easy on my feet with all the walking?
  • - weight of my luggage, can I handle 2 suitcases, 1 carryon mini suitcase and a duffle with my purse.
  • - do I have all the right adaptors for all the electronic equipment; camera, PDA, electric toothbrush, portable massager, cellphones?
  • - weather conditions for Hong Kong, and any possible cities we might join a local tour to? Japan? Korea? Taiwan? Singapore? Thailand is out of the question now since last time, we wanted to go, there was the huge Tsunami, now there's a coup. I think we jinx Thailand.
Someone said, packing to go away for a day is the same as packing for a week; just add more clothes for the week. But what if you cannot find a laundrymat?

I have to stop obsessing and just bring an empty backpack with 1 change of underwear and loads of money.

Are you ProActive or ReActive?

We attended some seminar a while back and someone mentioned that everyone needs 12 hugs a day to maintain optimal mental health. I think it is a very ambitious endeavor for those of us that are more reserved.

Hugs are friendly gesture of affection. It gives you comfort after a bad day, tell whoever that is hugging you that they are happy to see you.

Sometimes I find hugging hello and goodbye awkward, I am a ReActive Hugger, and I am never sure when hugs are appropriate. Do you return a equal squeeze hug, a small pat on the back hug, or a hold your forearms to the elbow hug with air kisses ?

Several years back, Ellen Degeneres had a spin wheel on her show. She found initiating hugs awkward also. So when a new guest comes on her show, she will spin the wheel and she then do whatever the wheel suggests.. big hug, handshake, small hug with pat on back, air kisses, etc.

I ran into someone today, and after saying hello, he gave me a big hug. Since he initiated it, I return the hug. However, I was at a party the other day, the host was saying goodbye to various guests, he will hug some, shake hands with others, and when my turn came, I felt extremely awkward if I should hug or shake hands and ended up with a small wave. I was confused about which is appropriate since I knew the host for a long time.

One of my friend is a ProActive hugger. Whenever I run into him, or if we were at a party, he will hug everyone he meets. For him, I know I can hug him and not feel awkward. so what he did is establish a pattern so that you know what to expert.

The only time I am sure is when my friends' children greet me and see me off, I know for sure I will get a hug or if I ask for a hug, they will enthusiastically hug you.

So I am declaring here, I would welcome hugs but I am shy in initiating it. So next time, if you run into me and I have met you in person more than three times, I would welcome a hug of hello, you don't have to wonder.

Nails and How to Grow Them

My sister recently suggested a way to grow my nails to prevent it from splitting and it has worked quite well, so I thought I will share this with you.

The first 2 pictures are my nails after I cut it short.
Next two is to demonstrate that you have to file it straight across and round off the corners.
I also use Nail Envy by OPI per their instructions.
The last two is at my desire length. I have gotten a French Manicure and added glitter powder.

*Note: - you are suppose to file it once across once a day once you have shaped it correctly to prevent your growing nails from curling too much.

Mind Numbing Pain

What is Mind Numbing Pain?

If your mind is numb, should you feel pain?

How is it different than a Brain Freeze?

Or can you put mind numbing and pain together?

I welcome your comments on this.. I have been pondering this for a while.
